The exhibition "The Hate" takes as its subject "Jealousy", this primal and insidious emotion between pain and desire, fueled by sexual tension, low-esteem, pride and the wish for truth.
Through stories of lust, dreams, and hate, we follow Cecilia Torquato’s attempt to map the field, trying to comprehend the emotion from the point of view of the jealous, the suspected lover and the rival.
“I once received a letter on Facebook from an agitated woman, accusing me for having had an affair with her husband 20 years earlier. I got profoundly touched by her pain and anger and the sudden insight that the worst thing in the matter for her seemed to be living with a poisonous doubt. I responded to the letter and we started an interesting conversation. Ever since, I have been thinking of doing something with this story.”
This story, as well as a video where Helene Billgren recollect her dreams and three more videos and one installation unveil questions related to power and violence, as well as the complexity of an emotion hard to explain. "The Hate" is part of Academy Valand’s activities during the Gothenburg International Film Festival.
